We're Alive

I want to blog and post pictures, but my time is filled up with all these boys.  Playing and loving and bonding and sleeping.  We've had many days of bliss.  Except when it's time to go to bed.  I need you to write the book, How to Put the Adopted Child to Sleep.  Because you're not supposed to let him cry it out, that would not promote attachment, of which we are striving.  But how do you get a feisty, time-confused, yet tired one-year-old to lay down and sleep?  It's a wrestling match every time.  Unless he happens to fall asleep in the baby carrier, stroller, or car seat.  But, praise the Lord Most High that this is our biggest issue.  We went to the doctor for his initial visit and all is wonderful.  Except he maybe didn't think three shots in the thigh was too wonderful.  Oh man, Paul just caught me not going to bed.  I was so close.  Glasses off, quilt pulled back, but I so wanted to leave you a message and a least one photo...

Love.  There's a whole lot of love around here.

Oh that's got to be so tough! I assume he's in a crib... have you tried those aquarium toys that attach to the side? I think around that age is when we bought our daughter an aquarium and the Soothe and Glow Seahorse because of her go-to-sleep issues. We were desperate! She still loves it and if she ever wakes up in the middle of the night, we just squeeze the belly to play lullabies and it's like her cue to fall asleep and it is an extra part of her routine. They sell them at Target and we have a backup Seahorse stowed away just in case! The seahorse is especially good because she can have it with her to sleep wherever we are.

Just a thought, but I know there is MUCH more going on there than with a typical 1-yr-old. Praying for you! (That is a great book idea!)

He's not in a crib, that's why it's a real wrestling match. In Korea he slept with his foster parents on a mat on the floor, which is the Korean way until the child is 2 yrs old. So we are doing this too. The first night we tried to all sleep in our bed, but he squirmed and crawled and I did not sleep for fear that he would fall off the bed. So now Paul is sleeping with him on the floor. But this typical one yr old doesn't want to lay there and go to sleep, not when life Out There is so exciting. So we wrestle and try to keep him corralled on the quilt on the floor until he finally gives in and goes to sleep.
