The Last Game
He hit the ball!
He got on base.
Second base even.
Then to third with the next batter.
Then across homeplate after that.
He scored!
Oh, it was thrilling.
I had tears in my eyes.
Twenty million games and he finally hit the ball.
You can imagine his big smile.
No pictures, as I am a knitter these days, not a photographer.
But the yellow dishcloth on my needles will hold a monumental memory.
Good-bye baseball season.
Hello summer days of nothingness.
Nothingness filled with anticipation of a new brother.
